What is it?

  • Rosacea is an acne-like condition that occurs on the central face (nose, cheeks, chin, central forehead)
  • It often starts with reddening and flushing
  • Red bumps (papules), whitish bumps (pustules), and dilated blood vessels (telangiectasias) often develop on the nose, cheeks, chin, and forehead
  • Rosacea is more common in women than men
  • It occurs commonly in patients in their 20′s and 30′s and peaks during ages 40-60
  • It rarely occurs in dark-skinned individuals

What causes it?

  • The exact cause of rosacea is unknown
  • May be exacerbated by stress, hereditary, and gastrointestinal disease

Treatment

  • Topical medicines
  • Oral antibiotics
  • Avoidance of tripwires – Rosacea Tripwires
  • Dilated blood vessels can be obliterated nicely with an electrocautery or laser therapy
